Golfers Tee Off for a Cause
The fairways of the Sunshine Charity Golf Classic once again became the setting for generosity, friendship and community spirit as golfers gathered at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort from 24 to 28 May 2026.
Now in its 12th year, the event attracted participants from across Victoria and New South Wales who came together not only to enjoy the game they love, but also to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Their efforts delivered another outstanding result, with the tournament raising $5,000 more than the previous year and enabling donations of $19,800 each to Sunshine Trust and Southern Peninsula Community Support.
The continued success of the event highlights the power of community-led fundraising. What began as a gathering of golf enthusiasts has grown into a much-anticipated annual event that combines competition, camaraderie and a shared commitment to supporting worthy causes.
One of this year's beneficiaries, Sunshine Trust, plays a vital role in supporting cancer care across the region. Funds raised through the Golf Classic will help provide specialist medical equipment and resources, support professional development opportunities for healthcare staff, and assist local patients in accessing leading treatment options.
The event also continued its support of Southern Peninsula Community Support, an organisation largely driven by volunteers that provides essential assistance to vulnerable individuals and families. Its services include emergency relief, food distribution, homelessness support and a range of family-focused programs.
Beyond the fundraising achievements, participants enjoyed a week of activities both on and off the course. The program featured three days of golf, a welcome dinner, a wine tasting evening hosted by Buller Wines, sightseeing opportunities for non-golfers, and the popular presentation dinner. A silent auction and hole-in-one challenge sponsored by Lexus Wodonga also helped boost fundraising efforts and added to the excitement of the week.
Sunshine Trust Board Chair Brad Robertson expressed his gratitude to everyone involved.
“The Sunshine Charity Golf Classic is a wonderful example of communities coming together to help people when they need it most,” Mr Robertson said. “As Chair of Sunshine Trust, I am incredibly grateful for the generous $19,800 contribution, which will directly support better cancer care across our region. It is also particularly meaningful to see Southern Peninsula Community Support benefit from the event and the important work they do supporting vulnerable people and families. My sincere thanks to everyone who organised, sponsored and participated in another outstanding event.”
The increased fundraising result demonstrates the continued generosity of participants, sponsors and volunteers who return year after year united by a common purpose. Planning is already underway for the next Sunshine Charity Golf Classic, which will be held from 30 May to 3 June 2027.
