Amanda Ng Awarded the 2026 Tim Fischer Memorial Scholarship
Congratulations to Amanda Ng, who has been awarded the Tim Fischer Memorial Scholarship for 2026.
Amanda is a radiation therapist at GenesisCare Albury and is passionate about supporting local patients and families.
Originally from Perth, Amanda moved to Albury for work and quickly found her place in the community. She enjoys the quieter pace of life and the access to outdoor spaces. Amanda says, “Here, I feel like I can take things at my own pace and really get to know people.”
In her role, Amanda sees every day how important it is to treat patients as individuals. She says, “Getting to know patients as people, not just as cases, is what matters most to me.” She has learned that people in regional areas often face extra challenges. Time spent away from home and the need for more support are all part of many local cancer journeys.
The scholarship will help Amanda study for her Master of Cancer Sciences, where she wants to focus on learning directly from patients. She is interested in finding out what support really makes a difference, and making sure patient voices are heard. Amanda says, “My research will be shaped by what patients tell us, not just what we assume.”
For Amanda, receiving the Tim Fischer Memorial Scholarship is an honour. “It means a lot to me because Tim Fischer cared so much about regional communities. I hope to use what I learn to give back to people here.”
Amanda also wants people to know that radiation therapy is not just about machines and technology. “There is a human side to our work. Care and kindness are just as important as the science.”
Sunshine Trust is proud to support Amanda and looks forward to seeing the impact her work will have for people in our region.
